Class: Internal Promotion/Budget
Objective: To increase employee morale and attendance at a company anniversary observance.
Strategy and
Execution: On the occasion
of the mill's silver anniversary, company officials wanted to
generate increased attendance at the annual company picnic.
Attendance had dropped when the event moved from a major amusement
park to a ranch. Nine-hundred employees were first mailed a can
(duplicating the shape of a roll of newsprint) containing the
invitation on silver paper. Five days before the picnic, all
employees received a round note cube bearing the 25-year anniversary
logo. At the picnic employees were gifted with a lucite embedment
containing a 1967 quarter to signify the year the company started in
business.
Results: More than 1600
employees and guests attended the picnic -double the attendance the
year before. "Never before have we experienced this amount of
enthusiasm from our annual picnic," said a company official.
