The promotional products
industry is a $16.9 Billion industry annually that covers a wide spectrum of
products used for marketing, human resources, promotional, and other purposes.
The industry got it’s start as the Advertising Specialties industry and after
years of trying to explain what special kinds of advertising it’s members sold,
the industry association changed it’s name and with it that of the industry, to
better reflect the nature of the industry.
In most cases, a product must be decorated
or customized to advertise for a particular organization to be considered part of the promotional products industry. The buyers of promotional product in turn uses the
decorated merchandise with its’ customers, vendors, and employees. There are
exceptions in the areas of gifts and incentives (though purists would argue
differently).
