Since we are frequently asked... Here’s the scoop:

Purple Elephant Promotions ® was "born" mid February, 1996, four months after Darrell Marriott met Polly Edwards. Darrell, a 14 year veteran in promotional products, was in Michigan, USA running a promotional products company called "Tech*Mar Advertising Specialties". Darrell recalls the name Tech*Mar was supposed to be a catchy way to combine TECHnology with MARketing. It didn’t work... their best customers called them Mar*Tech. People didn’t remember the name, but they did remember one thing about the company... they used the color purple in everything. People remembered to look for the purple Rolodex card... or "the purple booth at the trade show."

The two had decided to start a new promotional products business in Vermont and in discussing what the new venture would be named, Darrell mentioned he didn’t care what they called it..."as long as people know we create Promotional Products They’ll Never Forget ®" . Polly’s response was “well...elephants never forget.” So they put the "purple" with the "elephant, " tacked on "promotions" for an industry reference, and walla...Purple Elephant Promotoins was born. After completing the necessary process, the U.S. office of Patents and Trademarks issued Purple Elephant a trademark on the name Purple Elephant Promotions® and the Purple Elephant logo. They also granted a service mark on the slogan, “Promotional Products They’ll Never Forget.®”
